Marilyn diptych, painting by Andy Warhol (1962)

Marilyn Monroe died suddenly, an apparent suicide In 1962, after the actress's death, Warhol made immediately the Marilyn diptych which is one of a series of silkscreens made by Warhol. He memorializes the screen image of Monroe, using a famous publicity photograph transferred directly onto silkscreen, thus rendering it flat and bland so that Monroe s signature features her bleach-blond hair, her ruby lips, and her sultry blue-shadowed eyes stand out as a caricature of the actress.
